Participating shops in La Grange are providing an open-air shopping experience as they bring their merchandise to the sidewalks and offer deep discounts in a two-day event designed to encourage local spending, according to the La Grange Business Association (LGBA).
Shoppers will find high-quality merchandise and unique items as retailers clear shelves to make room for fall inventory on Friday and Saturday, August 27-28. Dozens of businesses are participating with savings of up to 70% offered both inside and outside of stores. Hours of operation vary by location; the event will be held rain or shine.
Retailers are enthusiastic about the promotion as a way of appealing to regular customers and introducing new shoppers to their stores, says the business association. The sales promotion is part of the group’s ongoing initiatives to encourage neighbors to support local businesses.
“A village-wide sale like this is a great way for a store to provide additional shopping opportunities and ramp up their visibility. It’s a leisurely and easy way for people to support our small shops, and enjoy bites at our restaurants, too,” said Sarah Boyce, the group’s board president.
The Sidewalk Sale is sponsored by JAYNE, a locally-owned women’s fashion and footwear boutique, with support from the Village of La Grange. “We’re looking forward to seeing all of our regular customers and lots of new ones, too,” said Katie Cummings, the retailer’s general manager and buyer. “This is a big weekend for us; we’re bringing in plenty of great pieces and exclusive merchandise just for this sale,” she said.
In addition to dozens of local retailers, some local nonprofit groups will also display retail items out on the sidewalks, including the La Grange Pet Parade selling colorful parade-themed pet bandanas.
