Participating shops in La Grange are promoting an open-air shopping experience as they bring their merchandise to the sidewalks and offer deep discounts in a two-day event that has become a community tradition, according to the La Grange Business Association (LGBA).
Shoppers will find high-quality merchandise and unique items as retailers clear shelves to make room for fall inventory on Friday and Saturday, August 26-27. Dozens of businesses are participating with dramatic savings, some up to 75% off, both inside and outside of stores. Hours of operation vary by location; the event will be held rain or shine.
Retailers are enthusiastic about the promotion as a way of appealing to regular customers and introducing new shoppers to their stores, according to the business association. The sales promotion is part of the group’s ongoing initiatives that encourage support of local businesses.
“The Sidewalk Sale is a great way for a store to raise its visibility in the community, offload some inventory and appeal to shoppers looking for a well-priced bargain,” said Sarah Boyce, LGBA board president.
The Sidewalk Sale is sponsored by JAYNE, a locally-owned women’s fashion and footwear boutique, with support from the Village of La Grange. “We’re anticipating a great turn out from our regular customers, and we’re looking forward to meeting lots of new customers, too,” said Katie Cummings, the company’s president. “Our shelves will be stocked with plenty of great pieces and exclusive merchandise that have been dramatically reduced.”
Shoppers are encouraged to post pictures from the La Grange Sidewalk Sale to Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #LGSidewalkSale for a chance to win one of two $25 gift certificates to a local retailer. They may also enter by emailing their pictures to email@example.com, both by August 29, 2022.
